Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting 9/19/05

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President Mike Beale. Ryan Swayze, led 11 board members and 2 guests in the pledge to the flag. Betty Ward read devotions and led us in prayer. The secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the August meeting were waived as they were enclosed with September’s meeting notice. The minutes were approved as written.

Insurance Report: Jim Saylors, Agency Manager. Mike suggested that they send out a follow up letter to Mike Fife’s retirement letter. Jim said it is a mess and he is trying to get the agents personally get around to each customer. Jim also noted that the light now works all the time at the corner. They fixed the front door and hole in the yard at Delphi Office. Worked on the lights at the Flora Office. Also working with Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

Membership Report: Betty Ward reported that Carroll County needs 33 more voting, currently at 96% and 92 more paid for total membership, currently at 96% by September 30th. She also requested that she would like for Mike to appoint someone else to be membership chairman for 2006.

Janice Frey, County Woman’s Leader, read several Thank you’s from the fair. She also reported that over 7000 people visited the Taste of Indiana display at the State Fair this year. October 6th is the Elementary Teacher’s Workshop in Indianapolis. The 8th Grade Lugar Essay Contest topic for 2006 is “Memorable Cookouts from Hoosier Farms” The District Fall Meeting will be November 22 at the Tippecanoe Fair Grounds. The County Women’s Leaders are working on the Carolyn Burkle Scholarship and the other district scholarships. She also asked for a county award for the local Lugar Essay winner. Betty moved that we give $50 cash to the winners and Sacha Brown seconded, motion carried.

Mark Justice gave a brief summary of the 2005 Delegate Session. He found the Captive Deer Hunting discussion interesting and it was found to be “a right to farm” thus approved by FB. He was happy to report that FB now endorses a 1 license plate system and that FB no longer has a position on DST.

Young Farmers: Kathy Justice the October and November Marketing Meeting “depend on the weather”. Her and Mark filled out the YF awards for the year and encouraged participation in the Discussion Meet, State Convention, & YF Conference.

Shawn Ashby, Local Affairs/Web Site Coordinator, reported that there were 360 hits to the site in August and 140 so far in September. He led a brief discussion of the closing of the Delphi FSA office. And finally a short synopsis of the School Board happenings.

Rusty Ashby, Secretary/Information Leader, read a couple more thank you’s from the fair and Car Seat Clinic. Reported that she had completed and submitted the Outstanding County Activity (Newsletter, Web-Site, & Car Seat Clinic) and County Activity of Excellence for the Car Seat Clinic. She also passed out a survey on the Car Seat Clinic to get some feed back and suggestions for next year.

Janice Wilson, Field Staff, was out sick and left a copy of her Board Report for everyone.
The meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were served by Betty Ward. Next meeting will be October 17th at 7:00 PM, Devotions & Refreshments to be by Craig Frey.
