Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting 7/18/05

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office, preceeded by our annual carry-in “picnic”. The meeting was called to order by President Mike Beale. Ryan Swayze, led 11 board members and 3 guests in the pledge to the flag. The secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the June meeting were waived as they were enclosed with July’s meeting notice. The minutes were approved as written.

The board sang “Happy Birthday” Mark Justice. He was 29 for the first time.

Old Business: discussion on the Carroll County 4-H fair and the poor turn out. Our John Deere bike winners were Ellis Gasser and Linda Connaway.

Rusty gave a quick overview of the plans for the Car Seat Clinic to be held on August 20th. The letters for sponsorship are out, the building is reserved, popcorn popper is rented, Shawn is working on getting the Bounce House from Flora Rotary. Kathy is going to check on the clowns, Sacha is in charge of refreshments, & Tracie is working on signs.

Membership Report: Betty Ward reported that Carroll County needs 45 more voting and 164 more paid for total membership by September 30th.

Field Staff Report, Janice Wilson, Field Rep, asked for a donation to our local food bank for Young Farmer credits. Mark Justice made a motion that we give $500 to the Carroll County Food Bank, Betty seconded, the motion passed. 4 couples volunteered to help with Little Hands on the Farm at the State Fair on August 13th: Justice, Ashby, Swayze, & Beale. Janice also reminded everyone to attend the Leadership Meeting at White Co on the 27th and gave everyone a copy of her July Board Report.

Local Affairs: Shawn Ashby shared that he had been contacted by Bill Pickert with the Pork Producers and they are nominating Steve Nichols for the Hovde Award and would like for us to also send in an application. Board approved and Shawn will work on application. Reminder that the Bylaws probably need updated, last review was 2002. Also may want to think about reworking the Scholarship since we have had such a poor response the last two years.

Betty has turned one in on the History of FB and Rusty will write about the Car Seat Clinic, all other topics are open!

Young Farmers: Mark & Kathy Justice shared that the County Young Farmer Picnic & Pool Party will be at Justice’s on the 31st at noon. The next Marketing Meeting is August 16th and will be hosted by the Swayze’s at 6:30.

Local Affairs: Jr Snider gave a quick update on Birch Byah

Safety Report: Maxine Snider read “10 Essentials to Safe Mowing”

Thank you’s were read from the Burkle Family for funeral flowers and Jarod Kelly for sponsoring the Round Up trip.

The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be August 15th at 7:00 PM, Devotions & Refreshments to be by Mark and Kathy Justice.
