Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting 6/21/04

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President, Mike Beale. Vice President, Ryan Swayze, led the 14 Board of Directors present in the pledge to the flag. Ty Brown gave devotions. Secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the May meeting were waived as they were enclosed with last month’s meeting notice. Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved as written. A Thank you for the scholarship from Keith Mears was shared.

Business:
County Fair Booth: Booth Set up will be Saturday, July 10th at 8 am and Tear Down will be Friday night, July 16th around 9pm.

Sacha Brown volunteered to cross reference the Farm Bureau Membership list with the 4-H auction list to get an approximate number of congratulatory checks to be sent. Discussion followed as to the content of the letter and the details of the distribution of the checks. It was decided to have the auctioneer announce several times during the auction that Farm Bureau was donating $10 per child to each Farm Bureau member and that the checks would be mailed the following week.

Parade and Pet & Hobby: Line up is at 1pm on July 11th at JLP, parade starts at 2pm. 5 little battery JD Gators will advertise the Pet & Hobby show. Tracie will be working on signs and flyers for the event. Rusty Ashby will be putting an ad/article in the Comet and the Reminder. Janice Wilson is getting the ribbons & gift certificates. Craig Frey graciously volunteered to be IFBee that evening!! THANK YOU!!

Comments on the District 3 Ice Cream Social at Indiana Beach: nice cool night, good meal, and nice size crowd.

Girls Night Out – Sacha will work on an open date and will take any suggestions for activities.

Indianapolis farmers market has contacted Shawn through the web site asking us to print an article in our newsletter. Betty Ward made a motion that we not put outside articles or advertisements in our newsletter. Motion was seconded, voted up on, and passed.

Well Testing kits will be made available at the Farm Bureau office July 26-Aug 9th. Samples must be dropped off at the Soil and Water office. Janice Frey made a motion to amend the minutes from April 19th to read “Farm Bureau will pay for $20 of every sample collected” not just for Farm Bureau Members. Motion passed

Young Farmers: Bowling Party will be June 27th from 4-6 at Logansport East. The Annual Picnic will be July 25th at Justice’s Pool! The July Marketing Meeting is July 13th, during the fair – CANCELLED.

Local Affairs: Shawn Ashby gave a quick update on the Delphi School Board happenings and Junior Snider read an article on “Indiana Kids”

Membership: Betty Ward reported we are currently at 94%, need 47 more voting and 173 total.

Women’s Leader Report: Janice gave a report on the June 9th County Women’s Leader Meeting. Also she is needing people to help at the State Fair, August 17, 18, & 19 at the Taste of Indiana. October 5th is Elementary School Teachers Workshop – let area teachers know, great resources available. She also has the Tenure 4-H awards to be given out the week of the fair but feels Insurance should also be present.

Field Staff Report: District 3 Leadership training and Strategic Planning for all board members is June 29th. Carroll County volunteered to work the first shift August 14th at “Little Hands on the Farm” at the State Fair.

WEB page: Shawn will update the Scholarship dates and make them available for next years seniors on the web page.

The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be July 19th. This will be our Board “Picnic” – carry in meal along with a short meeting.
