Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting 5/17/04

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President, Mike Beale. Vice President, Ryan Swayze, led the 13 Board of Directors present in the pledge to the flag. Janice Frey gave devotions. Secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the April meeting were waived as they were enclosed with last month’s meeting notice. Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved as written.

Old Business:
Scholarship: Shawn Ashby will attend the awards banquet to honor the recipients on May 28th.

New Business:
County Fair Booth: Board discussed on the target audience and if we are reaching that audience with a booth at the fair. Is all our work and efforts paying off? After much discussion Shawn moved that we cut back to one space at the fair, make it a self serve booth with registration box for prizes. Pending approval from Tom, FB Insurance will sponsor two John Deere children’s bikes to be given to FB members only. Ty Brown seconded the motion and it passed the board vote.

Followed with an open discussion on giving $10 to each 4-Her showing livestock with a FB membership or donate to building fund. More research will be done to get an approximate number of kids.

Pet & Hobby show on Sunday night, it was decided that we want to advertise in the parade. FB board kids will lead the promotion. And IFBEE will be there from Sunday thru Wednesday walking around the fair grounds.

Women’s Leader Report: Janice Frey, gave a quick report on the District 3 Spring Seminar at Canal Park. Also she is needing people to help at the State Fair, August 17, 18, & 19 at the Taste of Indiana. Ace Ambassador application deadline is December 20th. There are also two other continuing education scholarships available and they are due Oct 15th.

Membership: Betty Ward reported we are currently at 93%, need 53 more voting and 207 total.

Safety Report: Maxine Snider reported on Prescription Safety

Local Affairs: Shawn Ashby gave a quick update on the Delphi School Board happenings and Junior Snider commented on the School Board report in the paper and ended with a joke.

Field Staff Report: Janice Wilson gave highlights from her May Board Report. FB to DC – who will be attending from Carroll County? Summer Ice Cream Social Meeting at Indiana Beach is June 19th. District 3 Leadership training and Strategic Planning for all board members is June 29th. Young Farmer Achievement Award deadline is August 1st.

Young Farmer Activities: Mark Justice asked for date suggestions for a Bowling Party and the Annual Summer Pool/Picnic Party. It was decided that the Bowling Party will be June 27th and the Summer Pool/Picnic Party will be July 25th. Mark your calendars, details will follow at a later date.

The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be June 21st. Refreshments and Devotions to be given by Ty and Sacha Brown.
