Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting
-- March 15, 2004 --

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President, Mike Beale.  Ryan Swayze led the 14 Board of Directors present in the pledge to the flag. Ty Brown gave devotions.  Secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the February meeting were waived as they were enclosed with last month’s meeting notice.  Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved as written.

Old Business:
Newsletter: Mailed and Posted on website.  Good Job! 
Website: still a work in progress; give Shawn Ashby any suggestions for improvement. Mike reported on attending Benton, White, & Tippecanoe’s Annual Meetings 

Insurance Report:
Tom Leisure reported that the new lights had been installed at the Delphi office.  They were looking into improvements at the Flora office.  Discussed adding the insurance agents to the website with their contact address.  Kyle Groninger is still in training, but Tom feels very fortunate to have him with his strong agriculture background.  Kyle will be working out of the Flora office.

 New Business:
* 2004 Annual Meeting will be March 16th
, 6:30 @ Honan Hall on Monroe Street in Delphi.  Shawn Ashby has made arrangements with Parrett’s on the meal for 90.  Janice Frey confirmed that the Carroll High School singing group “The Cougar Blues” will provide entertainment that evening.  Rusty Ashby made the motion to give a $100 donation to the Carroll Music Dept, Tracie seconded, motion passed.  Tara had the copies of the Ballots, Meeting Program, and the Resolutions ready to go.  IPC has donated a case of bacon for door prizes.  Sacha Brown made a motion to give one $100 bill and two $25 dollar prizes.  Tracie Swayze seconded the motion, and motion passed vote.

* Ag Day is March 18th
.  Mike and Mark are planning on attending the Ag Day Event at the Armory.

* County 4-H Fair is July 11-16, Pet & Hobby show will be the 11th at 5pm.  Mike challenged all of us to come up with new ideas for the 2004 fair booth.  Brief discussion followed.

* Scholarship Formed a committee consisting of Shawn, Sacha, Kathy Justice, & Ryan.  Shawn made a motion to give four scholarships (one to each school) for $250 each, Ty seconded, motion passed.  The committee will get applications to the schools and choose recipients for this fall semester.

Young Farmer Activities:
* Monthly Marketing Meeting
.  March 10th at the Swayze’s was CANCELLED, April Meeting depends on the weather. 

* Girls Night Out
is tentatively set for March 13 was CANCELLED, looking for alternate date.

* National YF&R Conference in UTAH
: Shawn and Rusty reported on there trip to Salt Lake City as YF Representatives of Carroll County.

* Next County Event:
  Mark and Kathy’s initiation as new YF Representatives, possibly a bowling party??  In June? Details to follow! 

Local Affairs:
Shawn reported on the latest happenings of the Delphi School Board.  And Junior Snider read a funny but true article from Will Rogers. 

Membership:
Betty Ward reported we are currently at 91%, need 82 more voting and 369 total.

Women’s Leader Report:
Janice Frey read two thank yous from the Extension office, one for Farm Bureau helping sponsor Friends Day and the other for Janice’s personal contributions to the event.  Janice and Betty both attended Spring Conference on March 5th – 6th and had an excellent time. 

Information Leader:
Rusty Ashby thanked everyone for their articles.  They were very much appreciated and very good.  Would like to see more participation from different people next issue. 

Safety Report:
Maxine Snider reported that this was Poison Prevention Week and gave some helpful reminders on how to keep our homes safe. 

District Field Staff Report:
Janice Wilson gave highlights from her report.  Note: District 3 Meet your Governor Candidates has been CANCELLED on March 29th.  District 3 Leadership Training & Strategic Planning for the board will be June 29th.  And she challenged us to write a new member in 2004: “Is Farm Bureau worth sharing?  Is your neighbor a FB member?”

Shawn moved to accept the Extension Office letter to sponsor the Reserve Grand Champion Strawberry Trophy, the Grand Champion Rabbit Trophy, two trips to 4-H Round Up and all the Boys pins for approximately $250.00.  Ty seconded and the motion passed. 

Refreshments were served by Sacha Brown.  Thank yous were read from Carroll County Food Pantry for our donation in recognition of Food Check Out Day and from The Soil and Water Conservation District for our donation to Ag Day festivities. 

The meeting was adjourned.  Next meeting will be April 19th.  Devotions are to be given by Maxine Snider and Refreshments to be given by Mike Beale.
