Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting
-- February 16, 2004 --

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President, Mike Beale. Ryan Swayze led the 13 Board of Directors present in the pledge to the flag. Rusty Ashby gave devotions. Secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the January meeting were waived as they were enclosed with last month’s meeting notice. Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved as written.

Insurance Report: Tara reported that the backdoor was replaced and they are now working on replacing all the lights in the building. We discussed what was needed next and the carpeting at Flora and the interior at Delphi were both tops on the list. She also shared that Gene Jennings had inquired about being on the board, Mike will contact him. Tom is having surgery for a pacemaker on Wednesday, Rusty will send a card. And Kyle Groninger started today at the Flora office.

Rusty read a thank you from Birthright for our donation made in connection with Food Check Out day.

Sam Zook presented a Website Demonstration. He specializes in Ag related websites and Carroll County Organizations. The cost will be $135/year and a one time set up fee (approx $300). He strongly encourages us to update it ourselves. To view the demonstration website go to: www.perfective.com/ccfb. The board voted in favor of going ahead with a website and for Sam to do it. Shawn will contact Sam and get him the necessary details. Shawn was also appointed to be the one to update the site.

As a result of Shawn taking the Website, Mark & Kathy Justice will be the new Young Farmer Representatives.

Old Business:
District 3 Leadership Training III held January 22 6:00p.m. at White Co Fairgrounds, follow-up training will be June 29th.
Mike attended the County Presidents Meeting on Feb 4th
Ryan Swayze, Mark, Ty Brown, & Mike went to Meet our Legislators at the State House on Feb 10th.

New Business:
* Newsletter Articles are due! MUST HAVE THEM BY THE FEBRUARY 27TH.
* 2004 Annual Meeting will be March 16th, 6:30. The 4-H Building was booked so the location has been changed to Honan Hall on Monroe Street in Delphi. Shawn Ashby has made arrangements with Parrett’s on the meal. Janice Frey confirmed that the Carroll High School singing group “The Cougar Blues” will provide entertainment that evening. There will be approximately 22 of them. Rusty will print up the ballots, Meeting Program, and the Resolutions. Resolution discussion followed.
* Ag Day is March 18th. Mike and Mark are planning on attending the Ag Day Event at the Armory.
* County 4-H Fair is July 11-16, Pet & Hobby show will be the 11th at 5pm

Young Farmer Activities:
* Monthly Marketing Meeting
. March 10th will be at the Swayze’s
* Girls Night Out is tentatively set for March 13th
* District 3 Day Trip to CAT and Dairy was attended by Mark, Shawn, & Mike. EXCELLENT TOUR.
* IFB State Young Farmer Conference was January 30-31. Attended by Shawn & Rusty Ashby, Mike Beale, Ty & Sacha Brown, & Mark & Kathy Justice. Carroll County won the Outstanding Young Farmer Program for 2003. As YF Representatives for the county Shawn & Rusty will be going to National YF Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah February 20-24.
* Next County Event: Mark and Kathy’s initiation as new YF Representatives, possibly a bowling party?? Details to follow!

Membership: Betty reported we are currently at 78%, need 106 more voting and 454 total.

Women’s Leader Report: Janice Frey reported that Food Check Out Day was Feb 5th. We gave FCOD flyers and stickers to the 4 local grocery stores: Stephan’s, Dave’s, Wallman’s, & Save-a-lot. Also donated $100 to Birthright and $100 to the Flora/Delphi food pantry. Janice will also got a letter to the editor printed in the Carroll County Comet highlighting Farm Bureau’s FCOD activities. Friends Day was held Feb 10th with 95 in attendance. Annual Meeting theme was discussed and it was decided to be patriotic. Spring Conference will be March 5th – 6th and District 3 Spring Seminar will be March 31st.

Janice Wilson, field staff, gave highlights from her Report. She asked for a donation to the legal assistance fund. We agreed to give what we gave last year, she will get that amount from Indy. Could not find in our records.

Kendall Culp gave a PowerPoint presentation on the FB-PAC regarding candidate endorsements. Carroll County is not a member of the PAC, but he wanted us to be aware of how the program worked.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served by Shawn & Rusty Ashby.

Next meeting will be March 15th. Devotions and Refreshments to be given by Ty and Sacha Brown
