Carroll County Farm Bureau Board Meeting
-- January 19, 2004 --

The meeting was held at the Delphi Farm Bureau Insurance office and called to order by President, Mike Beale. Ryan Swayze led the 14 Board of Directors present in the pledge to the flag. Janice Frey gave devotions. Secretary’s report: reading of the minutes from the November meeting were waived as they were enclosed with last month’s meeting notice. Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved as written.

Insurance Report: Tara reported that Kevin Sparks from the Flora office replaced Mike Roth in Delphi and Kyle Groninger replaced Kevin at Flora. Kyle is now in training and will start in February at the Flora Office. Discussed the condition of the building and the fact that the backdoor won’t close properly. Also Tara will be taking off the end of March or first of April on maternity leave. CONGRATULATIONS!

Old Business:
* County Board Christmas Party:
Everyone liked the carry-in meal and said to do it again next year.
* State Convention: Thought the State House was nice. Tours were crowded and hard to hear, but would do it again next year. 2004 Convention will be Dec 17th & 18th.

New Business:
* Reminder of the District 3 Leadership Training III January 22 6:00p.m. at White Co Fairgrounds.
* Food Check Out Day is Feb 5th. Janice Frey discussed the following ideas: visit a grocery store, donation to a food bank, editorial in the newspaper, speaker at a local meeting, or hold an official proclamation. After much discussion Rusty Ashby made a motion to give four $50 donations to a food bank (two to BirthRight and 1 to the Flora Food Pantry and 1 to the Delphi Food Pantry). Janice will order 4x4 stickers for the grocery bags and make flyers to be put inside the bags explaining Food Check Out Day. Janice will also get an article together to be submitted to the newspaper. Tracie Swayze seconded. Motion carried.
* Meet Legislator at State House will be Feb 10th. Ty Brown, Ryan Swayze, Mark Justice, & Mike Beale are planning to attend.
* 2004 Annual Meeting will be March 16th, 6:30 at the Flora Community Building. Mike will check on the building, Shawn Ashby will get with Parrett’s on the menu (America’s Cuts, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, Rolls, Salad, & Pie) There was much discussion on a speaker or entertainment. It was concluded to get the Carroll High School singing group “Cougar Blues”. And finally offices up for election: Women’s Leader, Assistant Women’s Leader & Secretary. Janice, Betty Ward, & Rusty agreed to be put on the ballot in their current capacities. Delegates will be Kathy Justice, Craig Frey, Mike Beale, Mark Justice, Ryan Swayze, & Ty Brown. Note the 2004 Delegate Session will be Saturday, August 28th. We will work on Resolutions at the next meeting. Be thinking of some new ones.
* Ag Day is March 18th. Betty made a motion to donate $500 to the Soil & Water Group for Ag Day promotion with the 4th graders. Shawn seconded, motion passed.

Young Farmer Activities:
* Monthly Marketing Meeting
. Each couple signed up for a different month to spread the responsibility. Feb 10th – Swayze’s: Mar 10th – Justice’s: Apr 8th – PASS: May 12th – PASS: June 15th – Ashby’s: July 13th – Brown’s: Aug 10th – Swayze’s: Sept 14th – PASS: Oct 12th – PASS: Nov 16th - ??: Dec 14th - ??
* Girls Night Out was January 17th. The girls (Rusty, Kathy, Jonella Beale, & Sacha Brown) went to dinner and a movie. The next one is tentatively set for March 13th
* District 3 Day Trip to CAT and Dairy to be attended by Mark, Shawn, & Mike.
* IFB State Young Farmer Conference will be January 30-31. 4 couples to attend – Ashby’s, Beale’s, Swayze’s, & Justice’s.
* District 3 Young Farmer Trip to Wisconsin has been postponed to the last weekend in July.

Local Affairs: Shawn gave a brief overview of the Delphi School Board and said to call if you want all the details, he will be happy to fill you in or take you with him to a meeting.

Membership: Betty reported we are currently at 75% and right on track for the year.

Women’s Leader Report: Janice Frey announced a writing contest for grades 2-3 and 4-5 and a coloring contest for Pre-School-Kindergarten and grades 1-2. Deadline is January 31st. Other dates to mark on your calendar: Friends Day will be Feb 10th, Safety Day is Feb 11th, and Spring Conference will be March 5th – 6th.

Information Leader: Rusty reminded everyone that the next Newsletter is scheduled to go out March 1st. Bring articles to the February meeting or get to Rusty no later than Feb 25th. Topics already spoken for: YF Conference/Tracie, Annual Mtg/Ryan, Recipe/Sacha. Other potential topics: Food Check Out Day, Ag Day, Membership, Highlights from meet your Legislator, Dist 3 Day Trip, and many more…

Janice Wilson, field staff, gave highlights from her Report. She encouraged us to look into creating our own County Site on the FB web page. Also mark your calendar for June 19th. Summer Ice Cream Social Meeting will be at Indiana Beach with a hog roast for dinner and strawberries & ice cream for dessert.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served by Janice Frey.

Next meeting will be February 16th. Devotions and Refreshments to be given by Ty and Sacha Brown
